China and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are set to strengthen their ties with the launch of direct flights between Shanghai and Abu Dhabi, starting April 28. China Eastern Airlines will become the first Chinese airline to operate this route, marking a significant advancement in air connectivity between the two nations.

The new Shanghai-Abu Dhabi flights will operate four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Departing from Shanghai Pudong International Airport, the flights will return from Abu Dhabi on the same day, aligning with local time. This service will be operated in collaboration with Etihad Airways, the UAE’s national airline.
Abu Dhabi, as the capital of the UAE, plays a crucial role in China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), leveraging its free trade zone policies and financial resources. The introduction of these direct flights is anticipated to bolster trade relations, facilitate business partnerships, and enhance cultural exchanges between Shanghai and Abu Dhabi.
In addition to improving trade, the new route aims to promote tourism by making travel easier for visitors looking to explore both cities. This enhanced connectivity will create a seamless link between the Yangtze River Delta and the Gulf region, opening up new avenues for travel, trade, and investment.
Travelers can book tickets for these flights through China Eastern Airlines’ official website and mobile app, paving the way for increased travel opportunities between China and the UAE.
