The Emirati Goldsmiths Platform, an initiative by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), is set to unveil the “Rare Natural Pearls” Exhibition in Sharjah. This notable event will take place during the sixth edition of the Jewels of Emirates Show, which is scheduled from 29th January to 2nd February 2025 at Expo Centre Sharjah. The exhibition is a collaboration with Suwaidi Pearls, a leader in revitalizing Emirati pearls, marking a significant milestone as the first of its kind in the emirate.
Attendees will be treated to a remarkable collection of the finest and rarest natural pearl pieces, including unique silver and gold varieties distinguished by their exceptional quality, clarity, and dazzling shine. In addition to showcasing these stunning pieces, the exhibition will celebrate the heritage and cultural significance of the pearling industry through a variety of activities, including demonstrations of traditional tools used for natural pearl diving.
During the exhibition, the winner of the “Best Natural Pearl Jewellery Set Design” competition will be announced. This competition attracted numerous Emirati designers registered with the Emirati Goldsmiths Platform. Competitors were tasked with designing jewellery pieces featuring Emirati pearls of “Gioon” quality and “Sangbasie” shades, which include a necklace and two luxury pearl earrings. The event aims to display the artistic innovation of the participants while echoing the craftsmanship passed down through generations of Emirati artisans.
A panel discussion titled “The UAE: The Coast of Pearls Through the Ages” will also be hosted during the event. This session will document the historical importance of the UAE’s coasts in providing premium-quality pearls and shaping the global pearl trade. Prominent speakers such as Mr. Abdulla Rashed Al Suwaidi, a renowned Arabian pearl diver and trader, will share insights from their experiences in this timeless profession, alongside contributions from Dr. Ali Saqr Al Suwaidi and Dr. Sultan Al Amimi.
Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI, remarked that the “Rare Natural Pearls Exhibition” represents a significant addition to the series of specialized exhibitions in the jewellery and gemstones sector hosted by Sharjah. He emphasized the exhibition’s role in highlighting Sharjah’s historical significance in the pearl trade and diving industry while promoting the sustainability of maritime heritage, a vital part of Emirati cultural identity.
Mona Sultan Al Suwaidi, Director of the Executive Office of SCCI’s Chairman and responsible for the Emirati Goldsmiths Platform, noted that the exhibition reflects the Platform’s achievements in enhancing the gold, gemstones, and pearl industries. She revealed that the number of designers joining the Platform has steadily increased, now exceeding 250, indicating its growing popularity and influence.
Abdulla Rashed Al Suwaidi, the founder of Suwaidi Pearls, emphasized the importance of participating in this exhibition as a crucial step in preserving the UAE’s rich heritage in pearl craftsmanship. He expressed pride in showcasing the exceptional quality of Emirati natural pearls and highlighted the event’s role in illuminating Sharjah’s illustrious history of pearl diving and trade.
