The United Arab Emirates has been elected to chair INTERPOL’s newly formed Committee on Governance. This significant achievement was secured by the Ministry of Interior during a voting session held at INTERPOL headquarters in Lyon, France.

Lieutenant Colonel Dana Humaid Al Marzouqi, Director General of the International Affairs Office at the Ministry, won the position with an impressive 67 percent of the vote from representatives of member states. This committee is essential for enhancing INTERPOL’s oversight and effectiveness, advising on critical matters such as the organization’s structure, statutes, and strategic objectives.
The Committee on Governance was officially established as a standing committee at INTERPOL’s 92nd General Assembly in Glasgow last year, evolving from the previous Working Group on Governance. This election marks a historic moment, as it is the first time a country has been appointed to lead this permanent committee, underscoring the UAE’s growing influence in global security and its commitment to international cooperation.
For the next two years, the UAE will lead the committee in driving governance reforms, promoting collaboration among member states, and presenting reports to INTERPOL’s General Assembly and Executive Committee.
