The United Arab Emirates’ General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has launched a pioneering regulation that establishes national standards for certifying air navigation service providers for unmanned aircraft. This new framework, known as CAR Airspace Part Uspace, is the first of its kind in the region, aiming to ensure that organizations offering drone air navigation services comply with stringent operational and safety standards.

The regulation encompasses various critical areas necessary for certifying drone service providers, including comprehensive training, safety protocols, quality assurance, future planning, and auditing processes. The intention behind these measures is to facilitate the seamless integration of drone operations into the existing aviation system, thereby creating a safe and efficient airspace for unmanned aircraft.
Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, the Director-General of the GCAA, emphasized the growing significance of this framework, noting that drone operations are anticipated to double in the near future. He stated that this regulation will pave the way for the harmonious interaction between drones and commercial aviation, reinforcing the UAE’s position as a leader in the aviation sector.
