Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, part of the M42 group, is celebrating a decade of contributions to complex care in the region. Since its opening in 2015, the hospital has set new benchmarks and strengthened Abu Dhabi’s status as a global medical leader.

Over the past ten years, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi has treated more than 6.8 million patients and performed over 175 000 surgical procedures. In 2024 alone, the facility received over 1 million patients and conducted more than 26 000 surgical operations. The hospital has been committed to providing world-class complex care, performing over 800 life-changing transplants, 550 transcatheter valve replacements, and over 6 400 neurosurgeries.
The establishment of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi was driven by a mission to offer highly specialized critical care locally, minimizing the need for patients in the UAE to seek complex treatments abroad. Over the years, the hospital has evolved into a center of medical excellence, pioneering innovations across various specialties such as transplant, cardiovascular and thoracic care, oncology, ophthalmology, and neurology. With eight specialized institutes and a workforce of over 5 700 caregivers from more than 80 nationalities, it caters not only to local patients but also to those seeking complex care from other countries.
According to Cleveland Clinic newsroom, Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Chairman of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, emphasized the hospital’s pivotal role in creating a world-class intelligent health system. He stated that Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is redefining complex care standards and attracting both international physicians and patients.
Hasan Jasem Al Nowais, the Chairman of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, noted that the hospital’s success is a reflection of the UAE’s visionary leadership and partnerships. He highlighted how the initial bold vision has transformed into a vital resource for people in the UAE and beyond, made possible through collaborations with government entities and global medical institutions.
Cleveland Clinic CEO and President Tom Mihaljevic pointed out that the institution is not only focused on patient care but is also dedicated to educating the next generation of caregivers through various educational and residency programs.
Dr. Georges-Pascal Haber, CEO of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, expressed optimism about the future, affirming that the hospital aims to deliver advanced and complex care to patients across the UAE and the region. He described the institution as a beacon of excellence, driven by a commitment to patient-centered care, research, and innovation.
The hospital has achieved numerous milestones, including being designated as a Centre of Excellence for Adult Cardiac Surgery and Stroke by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi. It has performed over 6 500 cardiac surgeries and pioneered robotic-assisted cardiac procedures. In 2023, the facility introduced lung transplants, further enhancing its capabilities in heart and thoracic care.
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is also home to the UAE’s first multi-organ transplant center and has performed over 800 transplants. The Fatima bint Mubarak Center, inaugurated in 2023, has redefined oncology care, recording over 55 000 clinic visits and conducting more than 14 000 radiation treatments.
Additionally, the hospital has performed over 6 400 neurosurgeries and has been recognized as a Center of Excellence for Stroke. Its commitment to advancing medical science is evident in its embrace of AI and robotic-assisted surgeries, with over 1,100 robotic surgeries conducted to date.
In alignment with Abu Dhabi’s Economic Vision 2030, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi has strengthened the local healthcare ecosystem through clinical placement programs, facilitating over 2 100 trainees. The hospital has also provided educational opportunities for 90 000 healthcare professionals through Continuing Medical Education programs.
Looking ahead, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi aims to further integrate AI, robotics, and precision medicine to improve patient outcomes while continuing to foster research, education, and development of future Emirati healthcare leaders.
