Wizz Air Abu Dhabi has announced the launch of flights to Beirut, representing a significant expansion for the airline. Starting on June 4, the budget carrier will operate three weekly flights, banking on Lebanon’s tourism recovery following a ceasefire that ended over a year of conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. Johan Eidhagen, Managing Director of Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, indicated that the airline views this as a prime opportunity to support the revival of Lebanon’s tourism. Despite facing economic difficulties, including a 7.1 percent contraction in GDP last year due to ongoing conflict, tourism remains a vital part of Lebanon’s economy. The Middle East has seen substantial growth as a travel destination, and Lebanon’s tourism is anticipated to recover quickly as the region moves toward stabilization.

The new route from Abu Dhabi to Beirut aims to provide affordable travel, with one-way tickets starting at Dh359. This price point marks a significant decrease compared to current ticket prices, likely encouraging more frequent travel between the two nations. Eidhagen emphasized that the intention is not only to meet rising demand but also to make travel accessible for those who previously found it unaffordable. He stated, “We are creating a new opportunity for travelers by offering an affordable way to visit Lebanon, thus boosting the tourism market.”

To accommodate the expected demand, Wizz Air will utilize Airbus A321 narrow-body aircraft, which feature 230 seats designed for high-density seating. This configuration is ideal for low-cost, high-demand routes. The airline anticipates that the route will achieve high load factors, as many passengers are eager to reconnect with family and explore the beauty of Lebanon. The Lebanese diaspora in the UAE represents a significant portion of the target market, alongside tourists seeking short, affordable vacations in Beirut.
