Modern networks are seen as essential for enhancing cybersecurity, with 97% of IT leaders believing that an improved network will strengthen their cybersecurity posture. The need for secure networking is emphasized, as 99% of respondents state that it is important to their operations and growth, with 68% considering it critical.

The research indicates that AI is driving the demand for resilient networks. A staggering 99% believe that having a resilient network is vital, especially since 78% of them have experienced major outages. These disruptions, caused mainly by network congestion, cyberattacks, and misconfigurations, can result in financial losses reaching $160 billion globally per business each year due to just one severe incident.

Abdelilah Nejjari, the Managing Director for the Gulf and Levant at Cisco, stated, “Our networking research clearly demonstrates that modernizing networks is no longer just an IT issue – it’s a strategic imperative for organizations aiming to thrive in the AI era.” He also noted that the ongoing AI infrastructure developments in the Middle East offer organizations the chance to utilize advanced networking capabilities that support AI and foster innovation.

IT leaders are already witnessing financial benefits from improved networks, primarily through enhanced customer experiences (59%), increased efficiency (57%), and fostering innovation (56%). However, significant risks remain if current infrastructures are not designed for AI or real-time scaling. Leaders have identified critical gaps such as siloed systems (64%), incomplete deployments (55%), and dependence on manual processes (50%). A robust network infrastructure is deemed necessary, with 96% of leaders believing that improved networks will directly drive revenue and 97% anticipating substantial cost savings.

This global study surveyed 8 065 senior IT and business leaders responsible for networking strategy and infrastructure in organizations with 250 or more employees. The research was conducted across 30 markets in December 2024 by Sandpiper Research & Insights on behalf of Cisco.
