In a move to solidify its status as a global hub for future technology development, the UAE Government has introduced the Chief AI Officers’ Training Programme. This initiative is spearheaded by the Office of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications and is being conducted in collaboration with the University of Birmingham in Dubai. The programme aims to upskill AI leaders across federal government entities, ensuring continuous advancement in smart solution adoption and development.

Omar Sultan Al Olama, the Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, emphasized the importance of investing in leadership for a sustainable and innovation-driven future. He noted that providing leaders with the necessary tools and knowledge fosters a culture of positive transformation and empowers them to drive innovation and shape future opportunities. Al Olama reiterated the UAE Government’s commitment to nurturing national talent and fostering a competitive, innovation-led ecosystem anchored in technology and sustainable development.
The two-week executive training programme blends academic theory with practical experience, equipping Chief AI Officers with insights into the latest AI trends, governance models, and sector-specific applications. It aims to empower these leaders to spearhead transformative projects within their entities. The curriculum addresses ethical, regulatory, and technical aspects of AI implementation while promoting innovative thinking and a strategic vision.
Delivered by international experts and academics, the programme enhances dialogue between UAE AI executives and global thought leaders, facilitating the exchange of insights and best practices. Participants will complete intensive modules covering the fundamentals and frontiers of AI, including governance, generative AI, machine learning, big data, and the economics of AI. Additionally, sessions will investigate real-world use cases in critical sectors such as health, cybersecurity, energy, urban development, government services, and entrepreneurship.
The Chief AI Officers were selected following the UAE Cabinet’s approval, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai. The selection process focused on candidates’ capacity to adapt to the rapidly evolving technological landscape and their readiness to incorporate AI into government operations. This initiative aligns with the UAE Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031 and the broader “We the UAE 2031” vision, which aims to place the UAE at the forefront of global AI and digital transformation.
