The Maritime Battery Forum (MBF) and the Zero Emission Shipping Technology Association (ZESTAs) have formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at advancing technologies for zero-emission shipping. This partnership was established during a signing ceremony held onboard Yinson GreenTech’s Hydromover, which took place at the WATTS UP APAC conference in Singapore, an event centered on the maritime energy transition.

The collaboration signifies a vital step in the collective efforts within the industry to decarbonize and promote sustainable shipping practices. The MOU details a framework for joint initiatives, knowledge sharing, and advocacy that will help speed up the adoption of clean energy solutions in the maritime sector.
Both organizations share a commitment to promoting electrification as a path toward decarbonization. Their partnership will encourage collaboration and innovation among their members, facilitate information exchange for mutual benefit, and create a cooperative framework that promotes joint goals and enhances member experiences. Syb Ten Cate Hoedemaker, Managing Director of the Maritime Battery Forum, stated that this partnership aligns their missions to push the maritime industry toward a sustainable future. He emphasized that by combining their expertise, they can expedite the transition to cleaner and more efficient shipping solutions.
Madadh MacLaine, Secretary-General of ZESTAs, remarked that achieving an absolute zero emissions vessel necessitates electric vessels, highlighting that batteries and energy storage systems are essential for meeting the International Maritime Organisation’s GHG strategy. He added that formalizing the already positive relationship between the two organizations will amplify their combined impact in the sector.
