Yango Group, a global technology company, has partnered with ROOTS, a food tech and retail firm, to launch autonomous delivery robots for groceries in Sobha Hartland, Dubai. This innovative service aims to streamline last-mile delivery and has obtained the necessary licensing from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai.

The robots are designed to operate independently, planning their routes, navigating around obstacles, and yielding to pedestrians. They can deliver orders within a two-kilometre radius in under 30 minutes. Equipped with high-precision city maps, neural networks, and a soft suspension with six driving wheels, these robots can recognize traffic signals and climb curbs up to 10 centimeters high. Their cargo compartment can hold up to 60 liters, accommodating various grocery items while maintaining proper temperature conditions.
Florian Jansen, the Founder of ROOTS, expressed excitement about providing the Sobha Hartland community with this innovative delivery option, stating that it would enhance local retail delivery and promote sustainability by reducing delivery times. Customers can easily place orders through the ROOTS website at go-roots.ae and select the robot delivery option. They will receive a WhatsApp notification when their order arrives.
These autonomous delivery robots are specifically designed to handle the unique weather conditions of the Middle East. This initiative is in line with Dubai’s Autonomous Transportation Strategy, which aims to convert 25% of transportation to autonomous modes by 2030 and reduce CO₂ emissions by 30%.
Ahmed Bahrozyan, the Chief Executive Officer of The Public Transport Agency, highlighted Dubai’s commitment to smart mobility solutions that enhance urban life and sustainability. He noted that the introduction of self-driving delivery robots reflects the RTA’s vision of creating a seamless transportation system that reduces congestion and carbon emissions, benefiting both residents and businesses.
Islam Abdul Karim, Regional Head of Yango Group Middle East, mentioned the company’s enthusiasm for advancing autonomous delivery technology in Dubai and the potential for future collaborations with local businesses. Yango Group has also launched Yango Tech, a B2B AI ecosystem that offers various innovative business solutions, including tools to enhance logistics and reduce operational costs.
Yango Tech aims to provide a comprehensive suite of AI-powered services, helping businesses streamline operations and improve customer experiences. Meanwhile, ROOTS focuses on delivering fresh, minimally processed foods and promoting healthy eating. The company emphasizes customer feedback to enhance service and product offerings, aiming to make clean-label food accessible to everyone.
