The Abu Dhabi government has issued an invitation for companies to submit bids for the development of an artificial intelligence system aimed at improving the interpretation of genetic data. This project seeks to create a large language model (LLM), similar to the technology behind ChatGPT, that will utilize medical and genetic datasets from the Abu Dhabi Department of Health to classify DNA mutations and generate reports on potential health risks.

Currently, doctors manually review complex genetic data to determine whether mutations are benign or associated with diseases. The proposed AI tool aims to streamline this process by automatically flagging genetic abnormalities and clarifying their clinical significance, thereby assisting clinicians in making quicker decisions.
Abu Dhabi is working towards establishing one of the largest DNA databases globally, with the goal of enhancing both community and individual health. The importance of genomic data in research is growing, as it helps identify links between genes and diseases, paving the way for new personalized treatments. Additionally, Abu Dhabi is increasing its investments in health, biotechnology, and AI through its sovereign wealth fund, Mubadala. According to estimates from PitchBook, Mubadala Capital’s investments in companies such as Outpace Bio, Metsera, and Capstan Therapeutics amount to a combined total of $617 million.
