Beyon has officially appointed AECOM as the master planner for its ambitious Beyon Digital City project in Bahrain. This development represents a significant step forward in creating a cutting-edge digital and technological hub, with an investment of nearly $700 million aimed at establishing a premier ecosystem for technology and innovation in the Hamala area.

The award signing ceremony took place at Beyon’s headquarters and was attended by key figures including Andrew Kvaalseth, CEO of Beyon, Faisal Al Jalahma, Chairman of the Digital City Development Company, Eng. Ahmed Al-Khayat, CEO of Bahrain’s Urban Planning and Development Authority (UPDA), and David Border, AECOM’s Head of Buildings + Places in Bahrain. AECOM will oversee the comprehensive planning and design of the Digital City, ensuring that it accommodates various intended uses, from commercial and technological elements to lifestyle components such as landscaped open spaces and essential urban amenities.
According to Zawya, Faisal Al Jalahma remarked that the appointment of AECOM is a crucial step in bringing their vision of a thriving technological hub to life. He emphasized that the project is designed to attract foreign direct investment in technology, commerce, and research and development, which will create high-value job opportunities for the future. Al Jalahma expressed confidence that AECOM’s expertise, along with support from key authorities, would help accelerate Bahrain’s digital economy and position the Kingdom as a leading destination for innovation and enterprise.
Eng. Ahmed Abdulaziz Al-Khayat highlighted the importance of integrating Beyon Digital City with Bahrain’s broader infrastructure plans to ensure its long-term viability. He stated that UPDA is committed to collaborating closely with AECOM and other stakeholders to enhance connectivity and align the project with national urban planning objectives. The development will also feature a multimodal transportation network, including an automated tram system, to ensure safe and efficient mobility while promoting sustainability.
David Border expressed his honor in being selected as the master planner for Beyon Digital City, noting that their approach will focus on sustainable urban design and efficient transport integration. The project aims to create a dynamic, people-centered environment that fosters innovation and collaboration.
