The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has been honored with the ‘Most Innovative Digital Transformation’ award by the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs. This recognition highlights DEWA’s significant achievements in innovation and digital transformation, particularly for its advanced digital power transmission substation that minimizes energy waste and lowers carbon emissions.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, expressed his satisfaction with the award, stating that it emphasizes innovations that enhance government excellence. He noted that these advancements provide sustainable solutions for current and future challenges, transforming them into opportunities for growth and development. The award was presented to Hussain Lootah, Executive Vice President of Transmission Power at DEWA, on behalf of Al Tayer.
Al Tayer credited the wise directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, for fostering a culture of innovation within both government and private sectors. He stated that this approach enhances efficiency and accelerates the achievement of national goals, thereby driving digital transformation and sustainable development.
In line with the National Strategy for Advanced Innovation, DEWA promotes a work environment that encourages innovation, providing the necessary facilities and tools to turn innovative ideas into reality. This initiative aims to achieve sustainability and enhance clean and renewable energy efforts, aligning with DEWA’s vision of becoming a globally leading sustainable innovative corporation committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
The implementation of these innovative 132/11 kV power substations has resulted in a 15% reduction in construction time and an initial cost saving of AED 2.7 million per substation. Each substation is designed to reduce carbon emissions by 386 tonnes, thanks to a more compact building design, while also eliminating over 54 tonnes of carbon emissions annually through energy savings, significantly improving operational efficiency.
