According to a statement from the Council, the deployment of AI-driven drones will enhance the traditional method of visual observation, which is the primary means of confirming the crescent moon sighting. This follows the guidance of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who instructed that fasting should not commence until the crescent is sighted, and if the sky is cloudy, estimates should be relied upon.

This new method will work alongside traditional naked-eye sightings and advanced astronomical observatories in the UAE, which utilize state-of-the-art technology to ensure precise moon sightings. The initiative is being executed in collaboration with national institutions, specialized research centers, and astronomical observatories to improve the accuracy and reliability of confirming the crescent moon.
