Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, has launched its latest AI model, Grok 3, setting a new benchmark in artificial intelligence. Announced late Monday, Grok 3 boasts upgraded capabilities, including advanced reasoning and image analysis, and powers several features on X, Musk’s social platform.

The model has been in development for months, initially planned for release in 2024 but delayed until now. According to Techcrunch, Musk described Grok 3 during a live-streamed presentation as “an order of magnitude more capable than Grok 2,” emphasizing its advanced computing power and expanded training data, which reportedly includes court filings.
Grok 3 isn’t just a single model but a family of variations. For instance, Grok 3 mini offers faster responses but sacrifices some accuracy. Additionally, specialized versions like Grok 3 Reasoning are designed for solving complex problems in math, science, and programming. These reasoning models also underpin a new app feature called DeepSearch, which scans the internet and X to provide detailed answers to user queries.
Subscribers to X’s Premium+ tier will get exclusive early access to Grok 3, while a new subscription plan, SuperGrok, priced at $30 per month, unlocks advanced features like unlimited image generation and extended DeepSearch queries.
Musk also revealed plans for upcoming updates. A voice mode for Grok 3 will roll out in about a week, followed by its integration into xAI’s enterprise API. xAI intends to open-source Grok 2 in the coming months after Grok 3 stabilizes.
When first introducing Grok two years ago, Musk positioned it as an AI willing to tackle controversial topics without the filters seen in other models. While earlier versions hedged on some political topics, Musk has pledged to make Grok politically neutral by refining its training data.
The launch of Grok 3 signals xAI’s ongoing ambition to compete with industry leaders like OpenAI and Google in the AI space.
