Sharjah Police are implementing an innovative system that integrates live biometric facial recognition technology into their patrol cars. This advanced system is designed to streamline criminal investigations and enhance operational efficiency. The technology is embedded in smart cameras and bars on the vehicles, enabling real-time data analysis and identification while being connected to relevant authorities’ databases.

The system features a smart board that connects to a central server at the police operations room, allowing for immediate cross-checking of images against the police watchlist. If a match is identified, authorities receive instant alerts for prompt action. Major Dr. Saeed Bin Hada, Head of the Innovation Branch at Sharjah Police, noted that this system will enable facial recognition and provide notifications if a wanted person is detected on the streets. He mentioned that the patrols will initially roll out in a trial phase, followed by phased upgrades.

In addition to facial recognition, the system can recognize license plates of wanted vehicles, identify speeding cars, and detect various violations such as smoking or phone use by drivers. This initiative is part of a broader strategy by Sharjah Police to enhance traffic management and public safety, which also includes the use of drones for traffic surveillance. Major Dr. Saeed highlighted that the patrol vehicles are equipped with an anti-theft system as well.

During the Sharjah Security Innovation Forum, Colonel Mohammad Alay Al Naqbi, Director of the Sharjah Traffic and Patrol Department, announced the launch of a state-of-the-art patrol system designed to enhance traffic management and emergency response throughout Sharjah. This system, developed in collaboration with the Transport Authority, aims to streamline traffic flow, especially during critical events like government convoys or emergencies.

One of the notable features of this system is its capability to automatically synchronize traffic signals citywide. When a priority vehicle such as an emergency responder approaches, the system adjusts traffic lights to create clear lanes, enabling these vehicles to move quickly without delay. Additionally, the system can instantly respond to emergency reports, activating lane openings for urgent vehicles.

The integration of advanced technology into real-time traffic management marks a significant advancement in public safety and efficiency. As the patrol system becomes fully operational, it is expected to greatly improve traffic flow and response times in high-priority situations, benefiting all drivers in Sharjah.

These innovative patrols were showcased at an exhibition held during the inaugural Sharjah Security Innovation Forum, which emphasizes the crucial role of the private sector and development organizations in advancing modern security technologies. The event was attended by several shaikhs and senior police officials from the UAE.

Sharjah Police have made considerable progress in fostering innovation, registering intellectual properties, and establishing innovation incubators. Key achievements include organizing over 15 innovation exhibitions with more than 120 innovative ideas, developing the first intellectual property evaluation system for Sharjah Police, and registering 191 intellectual property rights for innovative ideas.

These initiatives demonstrate Sharjah Police’s commitment to driving security innovation and setting new standards for modern law enforcement.
