The HEXA is an ultra-lightweight, carbon fiber, single-seat cabin eVTOL that can land on both land and water, boasting a maximum flying time of 5 minutes. It features 18 independently controlled propellers and electric motors, powered by multiple battery packs. This innovative aircraft is already operational in the US, carrying passengers without the need for them to hold pilot licenses.
Jace ‘Digit’ McCown, the director of flight operations and chief pilot for Lift Aircraft, stated that the HEXA is already in the air, enabling everyday passengers to experience flying in an eVTOL. He highlighted that the US has implemented regulations that allow for the commercial operation of the HEXA, making it the only country besides Saudi Arabia to have such frameworks in place.
McCown pointed out that there is considerable interest in the future of electric flight, especially at a personal level, which presents significant opportunities. He emphasized that safety is paramount when introducing new technologies. McCown mentioned that regulatory support from the US has been crucial for their operations and expressed optimism about expanding their presence in the region. He noted, “Getting the average person in a free flying vehicle is dangerous, but what we are offering is actually a highly controlled experience.” He concluded by stating that monitoring and controlling systems is essential for the successful operation of the HEXA.
