The foundation will focus on advancing both technical and ethical aspects of AI, including safety, transparency, and fairness. It also aims to develop frameworks for culturally inclusive and ethical AI systems, ensuring they meet regional and global needs.

In addition, Microsoft revealed plans to expand its AI for Good Lab to Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with G42. The lab will address societal challenges in the Middle East and the Global South by working closely with NGOs and government bodies.

Dr. Andrew Jackson, Group Responsible AI Officer at G42, highlighted the importance of translating principles into action, while Natasha Crampton, Microsoft’s Chief Responsible AI Officer, emphasized the need for ethical AI practices that benefit communities worldwide.

The foundation has already appointed Dr. Laura Haaber Ihle as Vice-President of Governance, Policy & Ethics, marking its first hire. Researchers at the Abu Dhabi lab are expected to begin work in March 2025, further positioning the UAE as a global leader in responsible AI innovation.
