According to Khaleej Times, Al Zaabi explained that AI is being utilized to accelerate justice delivery by translating, summarizing, and analyzing large volumes of documents. He emphasized the importance of speed in the justice sector, stating, “We have already started to implement and test using AI in these kind of crimes. In the justice sector, it is important not to act slow,” as reported by *Khaleej Times*.
However, Al Zaabi clarified that AI’s role for now is only as a tool to assist and not to make decisions independently. He pointed out that emotions and discretion remain crucial for public prosecutors in handling crimes. The UAE judicial system has internal policies to govern where and how AI is used, ensuring ethical considerations in its application.
During the pandemic, AI played a role in identifying individuals who violated mask-wearing rules. Al Zaabi explained that cameras were used to spot violators, and authorities collaborated with relevant entities to collect data, issue fines, and enforce penalties after thorough evaluation.
The three-day ‘AI Everything’ summit aims to highlight AI-powered innovations transforming various sectors, with the justice system being one of the key areas under exploration.
