Arab Parliament Pushes for Local AI Development

The Arab Parliament has stressed the importance of developing the artificial intelligence (AI) industry within Arab countries. Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi, President of the Arab Parliament, highlighted the need for clear plans and adequate financial and human resources to compete globally in this rapidly growing field.

Speaking at the Arab Dialogue Circle on “Artificial Intelligence in the Arab World: Innovative Applications and Ethical Challenges,” Al Yamahi emphasized the significance of using AI responsibly. He underlined that the technology should align with the ethical and cultural values of Arab societies.

The event, held at the Arab League’s headquarters in Cairo, was organised by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, alongside Naif Arab University for Security Sciences. It brought together diplomats, academics, and experts to explore innovative AI applications and address ethical concerns.

Al Yamahi also called for collaboration between governments, academia, and the private sector to establish an AI framework that prioritises innovation and sustainability. He added that a strong legal and legislative system is essential to balance technological progress with ethical responsibility.
