The UAE and India have joined forces to enhance polar research, aiming to expand their understanding of the Arctic and contribute to global climate action.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the UAE’s Emirates Polar Program and India’s National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) during the 15th UAE-India Joint Committee Meeting. The agreement was signed by H.E. Abdulla Balalaa, UAE’s Assistant Minister for Energy and Sustainable Affairs, and Dr. M. Ravichandran, Secretary in India’s Ministry of Earth Sciences.
The partnership will focus on joint research, academic exchanges, and capacity building in polar science. H.E. Abdulla Balalaa highlighted the importance of the collaboration, telling ARN News Centre, “This partnership reflects the UAE’s commitment to scientific excellence through global partnerships.” He also noted that India’s expertise in polar research would help the UAE strengthen its capabilities and inspire future scientific breakthroughs.
The Emirates Polar Program, which leads the UAE’s initiatives in polar science, will use this collaboration to participate in international missions to Antarctica and the Arctic. The program also aims to support global climate action and increase understanding of polar environments.
This new research partnership builds on the strong ties between the UAE and India in areas like defense, energy, and trade. Both nations are committed to advancing scientific knowledge and addressing global environmental challenges through collaboration.
By working together in polar research, the UAE and India are solidifying their strategic relationship and positioning themselves as leaders in preserving and understanding the world’s polar regions.
