According to WAM, Suhail Al Arifi, Executive Director of the Sports Development Sector at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, commented on the importance of the complex, stating that it is a “unique landmark within Zayed Sports City and a cornerstone of Abu Dhabi’s efforts to host major international sporting events.” He expressed pride in the facility, which hosts world-class tournaments consistently.
The tennis complex features a range of amenities, including numerous subsidiary courts alongside the main stadium. This setup provides tennis players with ample opportunities for practice and training, enhancing its reputation as a distinctive sporting icon. Additionally, the presence of courts for basketball and padel allows the complex to expand its capacity for organizing various tournaments.
Established in 2004, the complex includes nine outdoor tennis courts, highlighted by a main stadium that seats 5,000 spectators and two additional courts with 500 seats each. It also offers three 3×3 basketball courts, three padel courts, and a versatile 600 square meter space for hosting various events.
Since the inaugural tournament in 2006, the complex has hosted numerous prestigious competitions. This includes the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, which has drawn the top 10 players in the world. In February, the complex is set to host the third edition of the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open, a WTA 500 event, marking it as the most prominent annual tournament on its calendar.
Over the years, the complex has welcomed tennis legends such as Maria Sharapova, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Ons Jabeur, Carlos Alcaraz, among others. The Mubadala World Tennis Championship and the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open are two of the most notable tournaments held at the complex, which has also been a venue for significant events like the Special Olympics World Games, the FIBA 3×3 World Tour, and WWE wrestling matches.
