Saudi Arabia has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with packaging solutions company Sidel in Paris, France, aiming to explore the establishment of packaging operations within the kingdom. This agreement was formalized during the official visit of Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources to France.

The MOU was signed by Saleh AlSolami, CEO of the Saudi National Industrial Development Center, and Clive Smith, executive vice-president of Sidel Customer Management AOA. This partnership highlights Saudi Arabia’s commitment to attracting global partners to localize advanced manufacturing, which is critical for fostering technology transfer in the country’s key industrial sectors.

AlSolami noted that Sidel is recognized as a global leader in the packaging solutions market, providing valuable sector knowledge. He emphasized that this partnership supports the ambition to develop globally competitive industrial capabilities across strategic sectors, welcoming partners who share the long-term vision of investing in Saudi Arabia’s industrial base and workforce.

The MOU includes plans for a joint evaluation to establish local services and training programs, specifically addressing the needs of the food and beverage packaging market. This initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals aimed at economic diversification and enhancing private-sector development.

Yousef Dhahi, vice-president of industrial services at the National Industrial Development Program, stated that the partnership with Sidel was formed following a comprehensive assessment of market needs, anticipating significant value-added contributions to manufacturers in Saudi Arabia. He also mentioned that Sidel has seen high demand from many manufacturers in the food and beverage sector.

Earlier this year, Sidel introduced a new packaging solution designed for high-speed output, utilizing 100% recycled polyethylene terephthalate for still beverages like water and juice.
