Catalyst Announces New Investments and Partnerships to Boost Sustainable Startups

Catalyst, the first technology startup accelerator in the region focused on sustainability and clean technology, announced three new direct investments and the launch of its tenth cohort of startups. This announcement was made at the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi on January 14, 2025.

The new investments include AeD energy, Batsand, and Solumar, all of which are addressing critical climate challenges through their innovative solutions, such as optimized energy storage, carbon-free thermal energy, emissions capture, and advanced waste management practices.

In addition to the direct investments, Catalyst is introducing ten companies from the UAE and Egypt into its newly established accelerator program, which is set to begin in the first quarter of 2025 in collaboration with Flat6Labs. This initiative aims to strengthen the innovation ecosystem in the UAE and support startups in developing impactful solutions for environmental issues.

Ahmed Baghoum, Chairman of Catalyst and Chief Executive Officer of Masdar City, emphasized the UAE’s vibrant startup ecosystem, stating that it offers numerous opportunities for local and global entrepreneurs. He noted that the new cohort and partnerships with BEEAH, Hub71, and Flat6Labs highlight Catalyst’s dedication to nurturing this environment. Baghoum expressed confidence that the startups involved are creating groundbreaking climate technology solutions that will have a lasting impact on the environment.

Catalyst has also formed a strategic partnership with BEEAH, an organization recognized for its pioneering efforts in sustainability and innovation. This collaboration will explore various areas, including identifying promising startups, developing mentorship and funding programs, and exchanging insights and technological solutions relevant to green mobility and waste management. The goal of this partnership is to accelerate the development and implementation of sustainable technologies.

Khaled Al Huraimel, Group CEO and Vice Chairman of BEEAH, shared his enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting the shared ambition to foster startup growth and further the UAE’s transformation into an entrepreneurial nation. He stated that this partnership aligns closely with BEEAH’s mission of promoting sustainability and inspiring innovations that benefit humanity’s future.

Additionally, Catalyst has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Hub71, Abu Dhabi’s global tech ecosystem, to enhance its support for startups. This partnership offers Hub71 startups access to a comprehensive network of investors, mentors, and corporate partners, creating valuable resources and opportunities for growth. Startups will also be encouraged to participate in the Hub71+ ClimateTech Program, which focuses on leveraging technology to achieve decarbonization and support a net-zero future.

Ahmad Ali Alwan, CEO of Hub71, affirmed the organization’s commitment to empowering startups to innovate for impact. He indicated that the partnership with Catalyst aligns with their mission to drive meaningful change and advance clean technologies, contributing to a more sustainable future for Abu Dhabi.
