Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council, recently reviewed critical road infrastructure projects being developed by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). During the briefing, the Crown Prince was informed about the implementation timeline for these major projects, which are designed to accommodate Dubai’s population, projected to reach 8 million by 2040. The RTA’s plan includes the construction of 226 kilometers of roads and 115 bridges and tunnels as part of 57 strategic initiatives outlined in the 2025–2027 roadmap.

Among the highlighted projects are the upgrades to the Umm Suqeim–Al Qudra Corridor, Hessa Street, and several other significant routes such as Latifa bint Hamdan Street and Al Meydan Street. The enhancements to the Umm Suqeim–Al Qudra Corridor, for example, will involve 7 000 meters of bridges and tunnels, which is expected to reduce travel time from 46 minutes to just 11 minutes.

The Crown Prince also examined a mural that presents RTA’s strategic road projects and their timelines. This includes the development of 11 major road corridors, consisting of eight vertical corridors and three new routes, all aimed at increasing the efficiency of the road network.

Additionally, the briefing covered plans for deploying autonomous taxis and developing a model neighborhood in Al Barsha 2. The RTA has entered into agreements with three international companies to facilitate the deployment of these taxis, with over 60 vehicles set to be used for road mapping and data collection in the initial phase.

The second phase will involve pilot operations in up to 65 designated zones, chosen based on key safety criteria, with the official launch of the autonomous taxi service planned for the first quarter of 2026. This initiative is part of Dubai’s Self-Driving Transport Strategy, which aims to convert 25 percent of all mobility journeys in the city to autonomous modes by 2030.
