Journey Times on Sheikh Zayed Road Near Burj Khalifa Reduced by Over Half

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has implemented significant upgrades on Sheikh Zayed Road, one of Dubai’s busiest highways, resulting in journey times being cut by more than half. This improvement is particularly noticeable near the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, and the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), making travel through this critical area much smoother.

As part of this project, the RTA has added a new lane to the service road adjacent to the Financial Centre Metro Station, increasing the total number of lanes from three to four. This expansion has boosted the road’s capacity by 25 percent, allowing it to accommodate 3,200 vehicles per hour, up from the previous capacity of 2,400 vehicles.

The addition of the lane is expected to significantly reduce congestion and queuing times, with journey durations decreasing from five minutes to just two minutes in this high-traffic area. Furthermore, the RTA has enhanced the traffic merging distance between Al Khail Road and Financial Centre Street toward Dubai, improving journey times by an additional 25 percent in that location.

The RTA continues to focus on optimizing traffic flow throughout Dubai, especially as the city experiences ongoing growth. Ahmed Al Khzaimy, Director of Traffic at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, stated that the authority is committed to providing safer and more seamless travel across the emirate. He emphasized that “through innovative enhancements and traffic solutions, we aim to provide a seamless and safe travel experience for all motorists and road users across the emirate.”
