The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has revealed that the total value of its 132kV transmission projects has reached AED 2.1 billion. This announcement was made by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the Managing Director and CEO of DEWA. The authority commissioned 13 new 132kV substations with a conversion capacity of 1 950 megavolt-amperes in 2024, along with the installation of 127 kilometres of ground cables to connect these substations to the main transmission network. This expansion is part of DEWA’s efforts to accommodate urban growth in Dubai.

Al Tayer emphasized that DEWA is committed to supporting housing for citizens and meeting the rising demand for electricity in the city. He highlighted the alignment of DEWA’s initiatives with the Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum Family Programme, which aims to foster family growth and improve the quality of life for Emiratis. Additionally, he noted that DEWA’s network expansion is in line with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which are designed to support the city’s rapid population growth and enhance its global standing as a premier place to live, work, and visit.
The newly commissioned substations will service several emerging neighborhoods, including Al Athbah, Nadd Hessa, Al Khawaneej 2, Wadi Al Amardi, and Al Aweer 1. Other areas benefiting from these constructions include Al Thanyah 3, Al Barsha South 4, International City Phase (2), Wadi Al Safa 5, Umm Suqeim 3, Al Hebiah 5, and Jebel Ali Industrial First.

He also indicated that by the end of 2024, the total number of 132kV substations in Dubai would reach 360, with an additional 37 under construction, alongside 27 operational 400kV substations, two of which are also under construction.
