Burjeel Holdings has teamed up with South Korea-based CONNECTEVE to enhance orthopedic care in the UAE by introducing the first Department of Health (DoH)-approved AI knee diagnosis platform in Abu Dhabi. This innovative platform utilizes CONNECTEVE’s advanced AI tools, CONNEVO KOA and CONNEVO ALI, which are the first technologies of their kind from Korea to be approved by the DoH. The partnership was officially signed during the Abu Dhabi Global Health Week by Mr. John Sunil, Group CEO of Burjeel Holdings, and Dr. Du Hyun Ro, CEO of CONNECTEVE. The signing ceremony was attended by dignitaries including His Excellency Yoo Jeh Seung, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the UAE, and Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Founder and Chairman of Burjeel Holdings. Attendees at Burjeel’s booth were able to see demonstrations of the AI tools.

The AI-powered tools, CONNEVO KOA and CONNEVO ALI, aim to improve knee procedures by assisting physicians in analyzing conditions and planning surgeries. These tools are crucial for accurately diagnosing various musculoskeletal issues, including osteoarthritis and deformities. They will enhance preoperative planning, ensure precise angle measurements, and provide thorough assessments after surgery. By improving diagnostic accuracy, these tools may also help identify cases where surgery is unnecessary, thereby reducing the likelihood of unnecessary procedures.

Dr. Du Hyun Ro, CEO of CONNECTEVE, emphasized the global shift towards AI in clinical workflows, noting South Korea’s potential to lead this change due to its advanced research capabilities and medical data infrastructure. He expressed confidence in Burjeel Hospital’s capacity to be the first to implement this vision in clinical practice.

This collaboration will bolster Burjeel’s comprehensive orthopedic portfolio, which includes recognized facilities such as Paley Middle East Clinic, Burjeel Medical City, and Burjeel Hospital, Abu Dhabi—each acknowledged by the DoH as specialized centers for orthopedic surgery and medicine in the Emirate.

Mr. John Sunil remarked that this advancement would solidify Burjeel’s leadership in the UAE’s healthcare sector. He highlighted the importance of integrating cutting-edge AI technology into orthopedic care, stating that it would transform diagnostic and treatment approaches, leading to improved patient outcomes through enhanced precision and planning.

A recent study conducted by orthopedic experts at Burjeel and CONNECTEVE analyzed knee alignment patterns in Middle Eastern and East Asian populations using artificial intelligence. The findings indicated significant variations in knee alignment based on population, necessitating customized management strategies. Through the integration of AI and robotic surgery, Burjeel is making significant progress towards providing personalized and technologically advanced orthopedic care.
