Dubai Police Joins WHO’s International Pathogen Surveillance Network

The Genome Centre at the General Department of Forensic Science and Criminology of Dubai Police has officially joined the International Pathogen Surveillance Network (IPSN). This initiative was established by the World Health Organization (WHO) to enhance global health security.

IPSN serves as a global platform that promotes the exchange of expertise in monitoring infectious diseases, conducting epidemic surveillance, and detecting pathogens through advanced genomic sequencing technologies. The network is designed to enable the early identification of emerging public health challenges, ensuring prompt responses to such threats. It connects research institutions and specialized laboratories worldwide, fostering scientific collaboration and the creation of innovative solutions to address global health issues.

Major General Ahmad Thani bin Ghulaita, Director of the General Department of Forensic Science and Criminology, emphasized that Dubai Police’s involvement in IPSN underscores its leadership in genomics and environmental analysis. He noted that this initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to enhance health and ecological security in the UAE. Meanwhile, Colonel Engineer Rashid Lootah, Deputy Director of the General Department of Forensic Science and Criminology for Technical Affairs, described the membership as a significant milestone in the mission of Dubai Police to develop innovative solutions for pathogen detection and rapid response mechanisms. He stated that the centre will work to expand its collaboration with international research institutions to improve knowledge-sharing and expertise exchange.

Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Muhammad Ali Al Marri, Director of the Genome Centre at Dubai Police, highlighted that joining the network will allow the centre to develop advanced technologies for pathogen surveillance and strengthen biological security in the UAE. He remarked that this membership will enhance research and technical cooperation on a global level, further contributing to the fight against infectious diseases.
