Speaking to Emirates News Agency (WAM) ahead of Arab Health 2025, Dr. Maaz Shaikh, Vice President of Product Management at M42, highlighted the company’s advancements in AI-driven healthcare. One of their standout innovations is the “Med42 LLM Model,” a large language model designed for clinical use. Initially released in October 2023 and updated in 2024 as Med42-v2, it achieved an impressive 94.5% score on USMLE testing. The model helps clinicians process vast amounts of medical data efficiently, access clinical guidelines, and create personalized education materials for patients.

M42 is also tackling administrative challenges in healthcare. AI-powered tools, like the Med42 Q&A application, assist clinicians with summarizing complex information and cutting down time on documentation, allowing them to focus more on patient care. Additionally, their AIRIS-TB system automates tuberculosis screening, completing up to 2,000 X-ray examinations daily—ten times the capacity of traditional methods. AI integration extends further to enhance diagnostic accuracy in endoscopic exams and cancer detection.

The company’s Omics Centre of Excellence is advancing genomic research, including the UAE Genome Programme, paving the way for precision medicine and proactive health management. M42 is committed to ethical standards, ensuring data privacy and safety across all AI applications. Dr. Maaz stressed the importance of combining AI’s capabilities with clinical expertise to prevent over-reliance on technology and ensure accurate results.

M42’s mission is to empower healthcare professionals while maintaining the human touch. “Our focus is on improving the quality of human interaction in healthcare,” Dr. Maaz told WAM. He explained that AI enables clinicians to spend more meaningful time with patients, enhancing experiences and outcomes. Beyond improving care, M42 uses AI for drug discovery and accelerating clinical trials through advanced data analysis.

The company envisions a future where AI drives precision medicine, early prevention, and proactive health management. While technology is transforming healthcare, M42 emphasizes that the human role remains central, ensuring compassionate and personalized care for all patients.
