One significant change is the removal of the minimum speed limit on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Road, previously set at 120 km/h. This rule, which included a Dhs400 fine for those who drove slower, has been scrapped by Abu Dhabi Police. The goal of this adjustment is to improve safety on the roads, particularly for heavy vehicles and drivers who prefer a more relaxed pace.

Additionally, two major highways saw a reduction in speed limits on April 14. The speed limit on Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed International Road (E11) has been lowered from 160 km/h to 140 km/h, while Abu Dhabi – Sweihan Road (E20) has dropped from 120 km/h to 100 km/h. These changes are part of a broader initiative to enhance road safety and minimize serious accidents in the emirate.

New municipal regulations from the Department of Municipalities and Transport have also been introduced regarding laundry practices. Residents are now prohibited from drying clothes or airing rugs on balconies or windows that face public roads to maintain cleanliness in the city. The penalties for violating this rule include a Dhs500 fine for the first offense, Dhs1 000 for the second, and Dhs2 000 for the third.

Furthermore, under the new UAE traffic laws that took effect on March 29, the minimum driving age has been lowered to 17, allowing teenagers to obtain their driving licenses earlier. This change comes with additional requirements, including passing a medical check and a driving test. However, the law has also increased penalties for various offenses such as hit-and-run incidents and reckless driving, with fines reaching up to Dhs100 000 and possible jail time for serious violations.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed about these new regulations to ensure compliance and safety on the roads.
