The United Arab Emirates has introduced new reforms aimed at supporting Emirati women and working mothers, reinforcing its commitment to female empowerment. These reforms include special regulations concerning parental leave and housing support, designed to provide Emirati women with the resources necessary to balance their professional and personal lives. This initiative highlights the UAE’s ongoing dedication to championing women’s rights and improving their quality of life.

One of the key reforms announced by the General Pension and Social Security Authority (GPSSA) allows Emirati women to take up to three years of leave to care for their children. During this leave, they are required to continue their monthly contributions to secure their end-of-service benefits, as per Federal Law (57) of 2023. This regulation reflects the GPSSA’s commitment to empowering Emirati women and recognizes their significant role within the nation.
In addition to parental leave, housing support for Emirati women has also been enhanced. His Excellency Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, announced new regulations under the Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme, which was established in 1999 by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. These regulations offer housing assistance tailored to the social status of Emirati women, focusing on categories such as custodial widows, custodial divorcees, orphans, women of unknown parentage, women who have lost both parents, and elderly women.
According to Arabian Business, the minister emphasized that these reforms are intended to promote family stability and unity while ensuring a decent standard of living for Emirati women across the UAE.
