The General Administration of Abu Dhabi Customs has announced a significant increase in pre-arrival customs clearance, reaching 72% of all transactions in 2024. This achievement represents a remarkable 53% growth from the previous year, 2023, when the pre-arrival clearance rate was recorded at 47% across all customs centers in Abu Dhabi.

In terms of specific transaction types, pre-arrival clearance for outbound shipments accounted for 85% of total registered exit declarations, an increase from 67% in 2023. Likewise, inbound shipments represented 60% of total entry declarations, which is a notable rise from 31% the prior year.

The increase in pre-arrival clearance transactions is linked to the ongoing development and enhancement of operational procedures by Abu Dhabi Customs. Key improvements include the advancement of digital customs processes, the optimization of integrated technical systems, and investments in cutting-edge technological infrastructure, particularly in artificial intelligence tools. Additional enhancements such as specialized facilities for freight clearance and shipping companies, improved electronic integration with regulatory bodies, and service-level agreements with relevant organizations have all played a role in speeding up transaction processing and reducing clearance times, benefiting both employees and customers.

Pre-arrival customs clearance is facilitated through smart platforms like the Abu Dhabi Government Services Platform “TAMM” and the Advanced Trade and Logistics Platform “ATLP.” These platforms enable importers, exporters, or their representatives to complete customs procedures before goods arrive at customs centers. The process includes submitting customs declarations, paying duties, and fulfilling any regulatory requirements, thereby enhancing overall efficiency prior to shipment arrival.
