Headquartered in University City, Sharjah, the SCQ may expand its operations to other areas within the emirate if directed by the Ruler. In its role, the SCQ will oversee and collaborate with designated government and private entities, as assigned by the Head of SCQ. The establishment of this quarter is seen as a strategic move to enhance the creative landscape of the region.
The key objectives of the SCQ include creating a hub for talents and professionals in fashion, jewellery, product design, and handicrafts. It aims to attract leading regional brands and promote modern design practices, as well as provide manufacturing spaces and cultural hubs to support creatives and engage visitors. Additionally, the SCQ will showcase and celebrate innovative design brands and contemporary fashion within the region.
To fulfill its mandate, the SCQ will partner with local, regional, and international organisations in the design sector. It will offer facilities and services to attract prominent brands and foster design innovation. The SCQ is also tasked with developing joint programs among entities within its scope and engaging designers, artisans, and manufacturers in relevant fields. Moreover, it will seek technical and administrative assistance from specialized local authorities and will organize and participate in exhibitions, workshops, and events.
The SCQ will be led by a Head, appointed through an Emiri Decree, with day-to-day operations managed by a Director who will also be appointed by the Head. The Director will have sufficient staff support, and their responsibilities will be clearly defined by the Head. The decree also addresses financial resources, fee exemptions, executive decisions, and implementation procedures necessary for the SCQ’s operation.
