His Highness Sheikh Mohammed described 2024 as the “most remarkable economic and developmental year” in the UAE’s history. Under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the country signed over 140 international agreements across key sectors such as clean energy, artificial intelligence, and humanitarian efforts.

The Cabinet highlighted the success of a three-year initiative that modernised 80% of the UAE’s laws, creating a growth-friendly environment. This contributed to a record 200,000 new companies being established in 2024, with foreign trade exceeding AED 2.8 trillion. Foreign direct investment reached AED 130 billion, while industrial exports surpassed AED 190 billion.

Tourism also thrived, with airports welcoming 150 million passengers and the hospitality sector hosting over 30 million guests. Meanwhile, the Nafis programme drove a 350% growth in Emirati participation in the private sector, with 131,000 citizens employed for the first time. Emirati entrepreneurs launched 25,000 new SMEs, further boosting the economy.

The Cabinet approved 750 national projects last year, with AED 70 billion allocated to initiatives in sectors such as education and sustainability. The government also introduced policies like the “Zero Government Bureaucracy” programme and advanced over 40 technology-related projects to attract investments and top talent.

Sustainability remained a top priority, with several initiatives launched, including the “Plant the Emirates” programme and a federal law on climate change. The UAE also took significant steps in renewable energy and digital transformation.

In education, the government restructured its framework to address all levels, from early childhood to higher education. New universities and schools were opened, with over 23,000 additional student seats created. The UAE’s education sector recorded over 1.2 million students and 107 higher education institutions, with a growing international student population.

Looking ahead, Sheikh Mohammed said the UAE is committed to progress and innovation. The Cabinet aims to ensure the highest quality of life and business environment while continuing to strengthen the nation’s global standing. “What lies ahead in 2025 promises to be even greater, better, and more inspiring,” he stated.

The meeting also reviewed progress in cultural initiatives, international partnerships, and legislative reforms, setting the stage for continued growth and development in the years to come.
