TAQA and Abu Dhabi Airports Collaborate on Next-Gen Power and Sustainable Innovation

Abu Dhabi National Energy Company’s subsidiary, TAQA Distribution, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Abu Dhabi Airports. This agreement, made at the World Utilities Congress 2025, aims to explore ways to improve the management of power and water infrastructure while integrating advanced technologies into the existing and future utilities networks across all airports in the Emirate.

The MoU was signed by Omar Al Hashmi, CEO of TAQA Distribution, and Elena Sorlini, Managing Director and CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports. The signing took place in the presence of senior officials and industry stakeholders, highlighting the importance of this collaboration. Through this agreement, TAQA Distribution intends to utilize its extensive experience in managing Abu Dhabi’s reliable public utilities network, along with its proven ability to design and build energy-efficient infrastructure, to ensure a high standard of operational excellence.

Omar Al Hashmi emphasized that the MoU enables TAQA Distribution and Abu Dhabi Airports to work together towards advancing Abu Dhabi’s vision of becoming a global aviation hub. He mentioned that their expertise in managing utility assets will enhance operational efficiency, allowing them to better serve millions of passengers and support the Emirates’ economic and logistical objectives.

Zayed International Airport (AUH), a major aviation hub in the UAE, is expected to benefit from this partnership, which focuses on innovative and sustainable growth. Such collaborations are crucial for improving operational efficiency and increasing capacity, reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s reputation as a premier gateway in the region.

Elena Sorlini stated that as the aviation industry evolves, the resilience and sustainability of utilities are essential for long-term success. She noted that partnering with TAQA Distribution will help elevate private network operations to public standards, ensuring reliable service delivery around the clock. This partnership is seen as a way to strengthen Abu Dhabi’s status as a preferred destination for trade, tourism, and economic diversification.

The MoU will also support several key pillars of the Emirates’ growth strategy as outlined in the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030. It emphasizes the modernization and digitization of utility services through AI-enabled predictive maintenance and advanced customer relationship management, aligning the Emirate’s airport infrastructure with international best practices.

TAQA Distribution is actively building a portfolio of strategic alliances, including a recent collaboration with Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) to implement a digital utilities billing solution for Al Maryah and Al Reem Islands. Through its TQD+ platform, the company continues to provide customized utility services to meet the infrastructure needs of Abu Dhabi’s rapidly growing communities.
