ACCIONA has achieved a notable milestone by obtaining the ISO 50001 energy management system certification for its Umm Al Houl and Ras Abu Fontas 3 desalination plants in Qatar. This certification marks the first of its kind for ACCIONA on an international level and underscores the company’s dedication to energy efficiency and sustainability within its desalination operations.

The Umm Al Houl plant boasts a capacity of over 500 000 cubic meters per day, while the Ras Abu Fontas 3 plant supplies 165 000 cubic meters per day, together providing drinking water for approximately 2.9 million residents. Both plants are managed by ACCIONA for the Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) and represent the largest certified capacity for the company to date, solidifying its vital role in Qatar’s water supply infrastructure.
This accomplishment reflects ACCIONA’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the energy performance of its facilities through advanced technological solutions that promote efficient and sustainable operations. The ISO 50001 certification validates ACCIONA’s energy efficiency policies and its efforts to adhere to the highest operational management standards.
With this certification, ACCIONA strengthens its leadership position in the water sector and advances its transition towards a low-CO2 economy. As a global leader in providing regenerative solutions for a decarbonized economy, ACCIONA’s offerings include renewable energy, water treatment and management, eco-efficient transportation, and resilient infrastructure. The company has maintained carbon neutrality since 2016 and reported sales of €19.19 billion in 2024, operating in over 40 countries.
