The project is a crucial part of EMSTEEL’s decarbonization strategy and aligns with the UAE’s goal of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050. Under this agreement, Yellow Door Energy will finance, construct, operate, and maintain solar panel installations on 40 roofs belonging to EMSTEEL in ICAD 1, Abu Dhabi. The setup will include high-efficiency solar panels, with bifacial panels specifically utilized for carports to maximize clean energy production.

Once completed, the solar project is projected to generate about 50 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean electricity each year. This output is expected to offset approximately 16 000 metric tons of CO₂ emissions annually over the next 25 years. The renewable electricity produced will be fully consumed on-site, leading to lower energy costs and a reduced carbon footprint, which aligns with EMSTEEL’s efforts towards operational efficiency and decarbonization.

Engineer Saeed Ghumran Saeed Al Remeithi, Group CEO of EMSTEEL, emphasized the importance of sustainability in the company’s strategy. He stated that the partnership with Yellow Door Energy represents a significant step in implementing their decarbonization strategy by increasing the use of renewable energy in their operations. Al Remeithi noted that integrating on-site solar power reinforces EMSTEEL’s leadership in industrial sustainability and contributes to the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 vision.

Jeremy Crane, Group CEO of Yellow Door Energy, expressed pride in collaborating with EMSTEEL on this solar lease agreement. He highlighted that the project, with a total capacity of 31.5 MWp, exemplifies the potential of solar energy to power key industries in the UAE while facilitating cost savings for businesses.

Construction of the project is scheduled to begin in 2025, with commissioning expected in 2026. Yellow Door Energy will manage the entire development process, allowing EMSTEEL to benefit from clean energy without incurring upfront costs or operational risks. This solar lease model enables EMSTEEL to focus on its core business while advancing its sustainability goals.

As part of its broader decarbonization strategy, EMSTEEL aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 40% in its Steel Business Unit and 30% in its Cement Business Unit by 2030, using 2019 as a baseline. The ultimate goal remains to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
