The primary focus of the meeting was to enhance Dubai’s sustainability strategic objectives and to reinforce the Emirate’s position as a global leader in energy innovation. During the meeting, the Council reviewed updates to Dubai’s Green Building regulations, which are foundational to the Emirate’s sustainability strategy. These regulations are designed to reduce carbon emissions by promoting energy and water efficiency in new buildings, with the ultimate goal of transforming them into zero-energy structures over time.
A significant topic discussed was the regulatory framework governing the trade of petroleum products. The Council acknowledged the success of Executive Council Resolution No. 16 of 2019, which established the Committee for Regulating the Trading of Petroleum Products in Dubai. This initiative has led to substantial improvements in safety protocols, risk management, and compliance among distributors.
Al Tayer emphasized Dubai’s strong commitment to sustainability, stating, “In line with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, we promote Dubai’s transformation into a net-zero economy. The Committee for Regulating the Trading of Petroleum Products and the updated Green Building regulations reflect our proactive approach to sustainable governance, ensuring that Dubai remains at the forefront of global green innovation.”
He further mentioned the ambition to strengthen Dubai’s leadership in global energy transformation by fast-tracking the implementation of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. The aim is for 100% of the Emirate’s energy production capacity to come from clean energy sources by 2050.
Al Muhairbi remarked on the importance of targeted action plans, specialized inspection teams, and robust regulatory frameworks in consolidating Dubai’s role as a national and regional model for energy governance. He highlighted that these efforts are focused on enhancing safety, promoting sustainability, and ensuring long-term economic resilience.
