OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE), a division of OQ Group, is advancing a portfolio of clean energy projects in Oman, with a total capacity exceeding 7 gigawatts (GW). This initiative has been recognized by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, designating OQAE as a National Champion in the renewable energy sector.

Muhannad al Kiyumi, the Head of Project Development – Clean Energy at OQAE, shared details during a recent webinar hosted by the British-Omani Society. He noted that the project portfolio includes various initiatives aimed at renewable energy, low carbon molecules, and other ventures. Al Kiyumi emphasized the significance of this endeavor, stating, “We have developed a pipeline of more than 7GW of projects—primarily solar, wind, and storage—in Oman, supporting the decarbonization plans of various industries.”
As the National Champion, OQAE is positioned to act as a renewable energy developer for utility-scale projects, which includes fostering local content development and attracting international investments into the sector. Al Kiyumi highlighted the importance of collaboration with other companies for design, grid impact studies, and energy storage solutions, enabling OQAE to deliver competitive energy solutions to both existing and new industrial players in Oman.
In addition, OQAE is working with international developers to enhance green hydrogen production in Oman. Notably, in partnership with TotalEnergies, OQAE is developing a 300 MW solar photovoltaic plant intended to provide low-carbon electricity for a new all-electric LNG bunkering project at Sohar Port. The collaborations and ongoing projects signify a substantial commitment to advancing Oman’s energy transition goals.
