Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, emphasized the authority’s ongoing efforts to expand the capacity of its transmission and distribution networks. He stated that DEWA is developing world-class electricity and water infrastructure to accommodate Dubai’s growing population and the steady expansion of the Emirate’s economic activities.

Al Tayer attributed Dubai’s success as a global city and a preferred destination for living and working to the wise directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai. He highlighted that Dubai’s urban, economic, and demographic growth supports DEWA’s sustainable development, which is fueled by increasing demand for power and water.

DEWA’s installed generation capacity has reached 17.2 gigawatts (GW), with clean power contributing to 20% of the total capacity. This development aligns with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which aims to provide 100% of the energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050.

In addition to the overall demand increase, DEWA also reported a 3.4% rise in peak demand for 2024, which reached 10.76 GW compared to 2023.
