ADNOC Gas plc has announced the signing of a significant three-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply agreement with JERA Global Markets Pte. Ltd., valued at $450 million (AED 1.653 billion). This agreement solidifies ADNOC Gas’ status as a reliable supplier of clean energy and addresses Japan’s energy needs.

The LNG will be sourced from ADNOC Gas’ Das Island liquefaction facility, which boasts a production capacity of approximately 6.0 million tons per annum (mtpa). Das Island is notable for being the world’s third longest-operating LNG plant, having successfully shipped over 3,500 LNG cargoes globally since its operations began.

Fatema Al Nuaimi, the Chief Executive Officer of ADNOC Gas, emphasized the importance of the agreement in strengthening the UAE-Japan energy relationship. She stated that the collaboration with JERA reinforces their shared commitment to energy security and a lower-carbon future. Al Nuaimi highlighted ADNOC Gas’ dedication to supporting Japan’s energy requirements while maintaining its reliability in the global LNG market.

Kazunori Kasai, the Chief Optimisation Officer at JERA Co., Inc. and Chairman of JERA Global Markets, remarked that this supply agreement reflects their commitment to providing energy security to the communities they serve. He noted that the partnership with ADNOC Gas is vital for maintaining a diverse, flexible, and competitive global portfolio.

As a lower-carbon energy source, LNG is crucial for the global transition to cleaner energy solutions. This agreement aligns with both ADNOC Gas and JERA Global Markets’ goals to promote sustainable energy practices. ADNOC Gas’ Das Island LNG facilities have been supplying LNG to Japanese energy firms for 48 years, and this latest agreement builds on a similar supply agreement from 2023, further enhancing the longstanding collaboration between the UAE and Japan.
