The University of Dubai, in partnership with the Artificial Intelligence Journalism for Research and Forecasting (AIJRF), has introduced a pioneering initiative called “Arab AI Researchers (AAIR)”. This initiative is the first of its kind in the Arab region and is part of the broader Arab Index for Artificial Intelligence in Universities (AIU), which was announced last year at the University of Dubai.

His Excellency Dr. Eesa Al Bastaki, President of the University of Dubai, noted that this initiative aligns with the key recommendations from the 5th edition of the Artificial Intelligence Journalism World Forum (AIJWF). These recommendations emphasize the urgent need to incorporate AI tools and technologies into academic research and teaching practices at Arab universities. Dr. Al Bastaki explained that the AAIR initiative aims to enhance the abilities of Arab researchers and academics in applying AI technologies within teaching methods and curricula.
Dr. Saeed Al Dhaheri, Director of the Center for Futures Studies at the University of Dubai and president of the Arab Index for Artificial Intelligence in Universities, pointed out the initiative’s significance in reaching a large audience of researchers. He highlighted the specialized training program aimed at integrating AI applications into educational practices and research processes across all academic levels.
Dr. Mohamed Abdulzaher, CEO of AIJRF, emphasized the importance of the initiative in establishing a highly specialized training program. This program is intended to instruct participants on the fundamentals and applications of AI tools in both theoretical and practical research, enabling them to analyze research data effectively and efficiently. He further stated that the program will introduce innovative AI-based teaching methods, including smart classroom practices and AI-generated project ideas, while also addressing ethical considerations in the educational use of AI.
The initiative aims to accomplish several objectives, including enhancing researchers’ skills in AI applications in academic research, integrating AI tools into educational processes, and promoting a new understanding of how to present research ideas. Additionally, it seeks to empower Arab researchers to use AI in accordance with international best practices, foster a specialized Arab knowledge community on AI applications, and provide resources in Arabic to support AI incorporation into curricula.
The training program is designed to run three times a year, with each session accommodating 150 participants over four intensive days, totaling 15 practical training hours. Participants who complete a final research or educational project will receive an accredited certificate from the AIJRF, the University of Dubai, and other participating institutions.
Founded in 2018, AIJRF is a pioneering global research organization based in Dubai, focusing on the intersection of media, artificial intelligence, and various sectors including education. The organization leads over 20 international initiatives in AI and offers more than 120 training programs aimed at integrating AI tools into professional and educational fields.
