94% of UAE Students Utilize AI Tools for Study Amidst Tech-Related Stress

A recent report reveals that 94% of students in the UAE are using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to assist in their studies. However, many of these students are also experiencing significant tech-related stress. This information comes from the Studiosity’s Student Wellbeing Report, which was conducted by YouGov. The study highlights that about two-thirds of students report feeling anxious due to AI, with 70% expecting their schools or universities to provide AI support tools, marking the highest expectation globally.

The reported stress among students is attributed to several factors. These include concerns about AI potentially providing incorrect information, fears of being accused of plagiarism or violating university regulations, and worries about data leaks.

Baz Nijjar, Vice President of Education Technology and Digital Innovation at GEMS Education, emphasized the importance of equipping students with the knowledge of how and when to use AI effectively. He noted that workshops and training sessions led by school staff and external partners like Microsoft, HP, and Intel are designed to help students utilize AI as a supportive tool rather than a source of anxiety.

Schools are also taking steps to involve parents in the education process, offering resources and workshops to help them understand AI tools. This collaboration aims to support children’s learning journeys effectively.

School leaders believe that AI tools can significantly enhance students’ learning experiences by providing personalized and adaptive educational opportunities. They acknowledge, however, that challenges such as AI-assisted plagiarism and over-reliance on technology exist and must be addressed through proactive measures.

Prof. Judyth Sachs, Chief Academic Officer at Studiosity, stated that equitable access to AI tools is critical. She explained that when students have access to university-approved tools, it alleviates stress related to inappropriate or unsafe use while ensuring that all students can access the same resources regardless of their learning context.

Abhilasha Singh, Principal of Shining Star International, noted the importance of integrating AI into the curriculum, emphasizing that students need to be prepared for the future job market. She supports the inclusion of AI as a skill-based subject in middle school, highlighting the need for ethical considerations and academic integrity.

As educational institutions navigate the challenges posed by technology, they are focused on educating students to use AI responsibly, ensuring it serves as a beneficial resource rather than a source of stress.
