The Sharjah Executive Council (SEC) has announced new regulations for media activities in the emirate of Sharjah. This decision was made during a meeting on Tuesday, chaired by Sheikh Abdullah Bin Salem Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, the Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Vice Chairman of the Council. The meeting took place at the Sharjah Ruler’s Office and was attended by Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, also a Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.

The main goal of the new regulations is to create a comprehensive and sustainable framework for media activities. This framework aims to ensure a robust legal structure for governing media operations and content, enhancing the quality and diversity of media offerings. It is designed to reflect the emirate’s cultural identity and values while also creating an attractive investment environment for media professionals and investors.
In addition to outlining the responsibilities of the Sharjah Media Council, the decision also emphasizes the importance of complying with relevant federal and local laws. It includes legal provisions concerning media ownership, institutional frameworks, and standards for broadcast and digital media. The SEC plans to ensure coordination among the various entities involved to achieve these regulatory goals.
During the meeting, the Council also reviewed broader government policies and the financial performance of the Government of Sharjah. They discussed strategies to enhance these policies to align with the emirate’s significant development and comprehensive growth across various sectors. The performance report for the second half of 2024 was examined, highlighting achievements in social development, government administration, infrastructure, and economic growth.
Furthermore, the Council approved the final account report for 2024, which details the actual financial results, expenditures, and revenues of government departments and independent entities. This report includes comparisons to the previous year, providing insight into financial trends. The Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD) also presented its annual report, revealing that it assisted 4,836 beneficiaries with support exceeding Dhs119 million for social security, care, and community outreach services.
