Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that public transport and shared mobility services in the city facilitated 747.1 million riders in 2024. This figure represents a 6.4 percent increase from the 702 million riders recorded in 2023. The transit services encompassed various modes, including Dubai Metro, Dubai Tram, public buses, marine transport options like abras, ferries, and water taxis, as well as smart app-based ride-hailing services, hourly rentals, and taxis from both Dubai Taxi and franchise companies.

The average daily ridership surpassed 2 million riders, rising from 1.92 million in the previous year. Moreover, luxury transport services, specifically limousines, reported 19 million users in 2024. The total number of trips taken across public transport, shared mobility, and taxis reached 153 million, with taxis accounting for over 115 million trips and shared mobility services recording about 32 million trips.
The months of October and November marked the highest trip volumes, each seeing 14.1 million trips. Notably, November 2024 had the highest ridership with nearly 69.9 million riders, followed closely by October with 68.4 million and December with approximately 68 million. Ridership during the other months ranged from 54 million to 65 million, demonstrating significant usage throughout the year.
Mattar Al Tayer, the Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), expressed his satisfaction with the consistent growth in public transport ridership. He noted a remarkable 28 percent increase in shared mobility users compared to 2023. Al Tayer highlighted the extensive reach of Dubai Metro, which spans nearly 90 kilometers, and the Dubai Tram, which covers about 11 kilometers.
Additionally, he pointed out the expansion of the bus network, which grew from 2,095 kilometers in 2006 to 3,974 kilometers in 2024, supported by a modern fleet of around 1,400 buses that meet European low-emission standards (Euro 6). Al Tayer also emphasized the development of a comprehensive marine transport system that integrates traditional abras along with the Dubai Ferry and water taxis, further enhancing the city’s transport offerings.
