UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan welcomed His Excellency Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, during his working visit to the UAE. President Aliyev is in the country to participate in Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2025. His Highness expressed his pleasure in hosting the Azerbaijani leader and thanked him for accepting the invitation to attend this significant event.

During the meeting, His Highness congratulated President Aliyev on Azerbaijan’s successful hosting of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29). He noted the significant outcomes achieved at the conference and acknowledged that the success was largely due to President Aliyev’s leadership and the global trust in Azerbaijan. Emphasizing the importance of collective action, His Highness reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to collaborating with Azerbaijan and other nations to tackle global challenges.

As reported by WAM, the discussions at Qasr Al Shati in Abu Dhabi focused on strengthening cooperation in various fields, including economy, investment, development, renewable energy, and climate action. These areas align with the shared interests of both countries and aim to promote sustainable development and prosperity for their peoples. The leaders also highlighted key themes from Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, which plays a crucial role in raising global awareness about sustainability challenges and opportunities.

President Aliyev expressed gratitude for the invitation to participate in ADSW and appreciated the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation. He reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to deepening its growing ties with the UAE across various sectors. Furthermore, he commended the UAE’s impactful efforts in fostering cooperation and collective action to address shared global challenges, particularly concerning climate change.

The meeting was attended by several high-ranking officials, including H.H. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and National Security Adviser, along with other ministers and representatives. Earlier in the day, President Aliyev was warmly received at the Presidential Airport in Abu Dhabi by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and other dignitaries.
