As reported by Gulf News, Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy and Chairman of the GCAA, emphasized the significance of this milestone, describing it as a testament to the country’s dedication to positioning itself as a global air transport hub. He noted that air traffic in the UAE has seen over 20% growth in the last two years, one of the fastest rates globally. Al Marri attributed this success to the UAE’s advanced infrastructure, skilled workforce, and cutting-edge technologies.

The GCAA credited this achievement to the efforts of the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre, one of the busiest air traffic control centers globally. Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of GCAA, pointed out that years of planning, innovation, and collaboration with aviation partners have made this possible. He added that technological advancements and improved systems introduced in 2024 have enhanced airspace efficiency and reduced delays.

The UAE also expanded its airspace capacity last year to meet growing demands while maintaining high safety and reliability standards. These advancements underline the country’s commitment to sustainable growth and efficient air traffic management.

Globally, aviation contributes significantly to the economy, with an impact estimated at $4.1 trillion, according to the Air Transport Action Group. In Dubai alone, aviation-supported tourism spending added Dh43 billion to the GDP, accounting for 8.5 per cent of the economy and supporting 329,000 jobs.

This achievement solidifies the UAE’s position in the global aviation sector, with ambitions to accommodate even greater volumes in the future.
