As part of the plan, a new entrance from Emirates Road to Al Awir 1 will be constructed, along with roundabouts and intersections to improve traffic flow. The project will also add a 4 km lane to Emirates Road, extending to Sharjah, increasing the road’s capacity by 16%.

As reported by Zawya, Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of RTA, said the development includes 5 km of internal roads within the Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Establishment project and 7.5 km of roads connecting Emirates Road to Al Awir 1. The new access points will double capacity, allowing 3,000 vehicles per hour compared to the current 1,500. According to WAM, Al Tayer noted that these enhancements will significantly improve connectivity for residents living in villas, mosques, and service buildings in Al Awir 1.

RTA is also working on road projects in other residential areas, including Al Warqa, Nadd Hessa, Al Barsha South, and Wadi Al Safa 3. In Al Warqa, a direct entrance and exit are being built from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, while converting roundabouts into signalised intersections will ease congestion. These upgrades are expected to serve over 350,000 residents, cutting travel time by 80%, from 20 minutes to just 3.5 minutes.

In Nadd Hessa, new access points connecting Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street will handle up to 6,000 vehicles per hour. This development will benefit areas such as Dubai Silicon Oasis and Hessa Gardens, reducing travel time by 80% and improving connectivity for over 300,000 residents.

Meanwhile, the Wadi Al Safa 3 project will include a direct entrance from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, reducing travel distances by 10 km and cutting travel time from 10 minutes to just 2 minutes.

Recently completed works in Al Barsha South have widened Hessa Street and added a third left-turn lane at a key intersection, increasing road capacity to 9,000 vehicles per hour and cutting signal wait times from four minutes to one.

These extensive road developments by RTA aim to enhance connectivity, reduce travel times, and improve the quality of life for residents across Dubai.
