Sharjah Forms New Committee to Drive Economic Growth

Sharjah has taken a significant step to boost its economy by forming the Higher Committee for Economic Integration. The committee will focus on streamlining development across various sectors, including free zones and the mainland. This move aligns with Sharjah’s ongoing efforts to fast-track infrastructure projects and establish new business clusters, particularly for startups.

The committee will be led by Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Government Relations. Other key members include Saud Salem Al Mazrouei, from the Hamriyah Free Zone and Sharjah Airport International Free Zone Authorities, and Mohammed Juma Al Musharrakh, Executive Director of the Sharjah Foreign Direct Investment Office, among others.

Their primary task will be to draft a comprehensive strategy for economic development. This includes setting growth targets, pinpointing key sectors, and ensuring legislative and policy support to build a robust economic structure. Additionally, the committee aims to enhance cooperation between government bodies to eliminate redundant efforts and improve efficiency.

In a related move, Sharjah introduced new rules for UAE citizens whose homes are damaged by natural disasters. To qualify for compensation, applicants must meet specific criteria, such as being permanent residents of the affected property, completing required documentation, and ensuring the damage occurred within Sharjah and was declared by competent authorities.

These measures reflect Sharjah’s commitment to fostering economic growth and supporting its community.
